Making Water Safer: Technology to Remove Organic Contaminants

The new AOP technology combines MIOX’s core technology of on-site generation of aqueous chlorine with ultraviolet light to produce highly reactive hydroxyl radicals. These radicals are then harnessed to destroy a wide variety of organic contaminants found in water, including hydrocarbon chains, trichloroethylene (TCE), endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and mixed organic wastes in industrial processes.

Leveraging funding from the Small Business Innovation Program of the National Science Foundation, MIOX has engaged in ground breaking research into this technology for over three years, and is currently developing a new product line based on the outcomes of this research program. Commercialization of this technology has recently been facilitated by an equity investment in MIOX made by TEL Ventures, who are interested in deploying the technology in the industrial market space. Future technology development will center on providing an integrated oxidant generation and UV treatment package which will facilitate the incorporation of MIOX’s AOP technology into overall water treatment processes.
