Shipboard Applications
The MIOX Marine-40 on-site mixed oxidant generator helps provide final disinfection for Navy ships’ water supplies.

MIOX Corporation has partnered with Howell Laboratories in Maine to provide safe drinking water on U.S. Navy ships.
Howell Laboratories incorporates the MIOX technology into their Model 7060 MIOX Electrolytic Disinfectant Generator (MEDG) and Model 8060 MIOX Electrolytic Disinfectant Generators (MEDG) to provide final disinfection for Navy ships’ water supplies. The units are currently installed on the USS Enterprise CVN-65 and the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71, which are the first aircraft carriers to be completely outfitted solely with MIOX disinfection for potable water. These systems are being retrofitted to all of the carriers as they are slated for upgrading on a routine basis by the Navy. The MEDG systems have also been deployed on the DDG 1000 class destroyers, as well as amphibious assault ships, including the LPD-17 class, the LHD 8 Makin Island, and the as yet unnamed LHA 6.
The MEDG system’s central controller supervises every aspect of operation and provides full diagnostics, requiring minimum operator intervention. It has been qualified to the full gamut of shipboard environmental requirements, including shock and electromagnetic interference (EMI).
