How stable is the mixed-oxidant solution?

On-site generation systems are designed to generate disinfectant on site and on demand, so attempts to store the solution defeat the purpose of on-site generation. We recommend that customers store less than 24 hours reserve disinfectant in order to ensure that they always have fresh disinfectant.

As shown in the graphs below, the free available chlorine (FAC) concentration of the neat mixed-oxidant disinfectant appears to last for nearly a week before it starts to gradually drop off. However, the advanced oxidation capabilities of mixed oxidants last for only 2 days before the efficacy of the solution diminishes. (Note that the presence of advanced oxidants are determined by the ability of the mixed-oxidant solution to inactivate Cryptosporidium, as shown in the graph below.*)

The results above are based on studies with the MSR MIOX Purifier, proven by BioVir Laboratories to inactivate Cryptosporidium at standard doses.

* Note that the EPA has not granted mixed-oxidant CT credits for inactivation of Cryptosporidium at municipal water supplies. MIOX Corporation simply uses the ability of mixed oxidants to inactivate Cryptosporidium as a distinguishing factor between a straight hypochlorite solution and a mixed-oxidant solution.
