Oil & Gas Flowback and Produced Water Treatment
MIOX® on-site chemical generation systems safely and cost-effectively generate disinfection products for oil and gas drilling and produced water treatment and distribution. Non-toxic chemicals are generated on site using simple reagents, increasing worker and community safety. Flowback and produced water are treated with a reliable, effective chemistry that's been used for decades in drinking water applications and is inherently much safer than industry-standard biocides.

Reduced costs and chemical volume.
Cost-effectively provide disinfectant on site to maintain performance. The MIOX system uses salt and electricity to generate a chlorine-based solution that contains other, more powerful, oxidants as well. The superior mixed oxidant chemistry makes it equally effective at higher pH. Since oxidants have superior algae-killing properties, additional savings may be realized. Return on Investment is typically 18 – 36 months or less.
Safe on-site storage and handling.
MIOX systems require only ordinary food grade salt, eliminating the transportation, handling, and storing of hazardous chemical. Employees do not need to wear protective gear, and there are no storage compatibility issues. Since the solution is stored and injected into flowback and produced water at less than one percent concentrations, the oxidant solution is not considered a hazardous material, but rather an environmentally benign chemical.
Truck traffic is reduced in the plant yard and in the surrounding community. For every four to five truckloads of industrial grade bleach (12.5 % NaOCl), only one truckload of salt is required. A more benign solution, safer source chemicals and reduced truck traffic improves safety for both employees and the community.
Easy mobilization and integration.
MIOX systems have the smallest overall footprint for onsite oil and gas oxidant generation systems and are easily mobilized for quick transport to and from different well sites. MIOX self-diagnosing systems can be monitored or controlled remotely and automatically adjust to changes in daily operating conditions. Available as a stand-alone packaged unit or easily integrated with other water treatment skids and equipment.
Enhanced environmental stewardship.
Take care of the environment while taking care of your operations. The use of salt and electrolysis replaces the use of hazardous chemicals for water treatment, where there is a 3-to-1 carbon emission reduction when compared to 12.5% sodium hypochlorite. The mixed oxidant solution, stored and applied at less than 1% concentrations, is environmentally benign and not classified as hazardous.
Experience the benefits of:
- Reduced man-hours for safety training, operations, and compliance
- Improved worker safety
- Improved community relations - no need to communicate an emergency response plan
- Simplified RMP or PSM program
